Caution ! Cult record ! Escale Party was made by french company AirFrance as a promotionnal item for their customer. A bunch of great french producers (Vladimir Cosma, Daniel Janin...) was called to create a worlwide musical tour, for people to continue the travel through their turntable. Expect some groovy Hi Fly action with these talented fellows. The crazy thing in 70s orchestra records is the mix of awful, ugly tracks, packed with subtil groovy gems in the same piece of wax. That’s the case for this record. Many tracks are useless and forgetable exotica jerks, but you definitly have to own this record for the ultimate soulful track “Hurt So bad” sing by Nancy Holloway and perfectly orchestred by Daniel Janin (think of Shirley Bassey’s “Light My Fire”), the wicked “Mahi”, a sort of blend between Schifrin Enter The Dragon and David Axelrod baroque breakbeats and strings, and “Les Calanques”, a beautiful melancolic tune with guitar and la la scat a la Moriconne. Never released and rare record.
