By Billy Boy Arnold Bo Diddley tried to accommodate at various record companies.He finally made it with his two pieces Bo Diddley and I'm a Man at Chess Records.On this single also Willie Dixon and Otis Spann participated. Due to the success, he played several concerts nationwide,including at the Apollo Theater in New York City,where he broke the record held by Sammy Davis Junior until then.
In 1958 he made for himself an electric guitar with a rectangular body. He took the neck of a Gretsch guitar with headstock and fingerboard and the electrical system,bridge and tailpiece and mounted these components on a flat square of Bakelite; this idiosyncratic instrument became his trademark.
In 1987,Diddley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2004 in the Blues Hall of Fame.Occasionally,he took on supporting roles in films,such as in 1983 the pawnbroker in The Lucky Knights.In Blues Brothers he appeared as a musician
On June 2,2008,Diddley died of heart failure,at the age of 79.
