Juan Pablo Torres was the godfather of Cuban trombone players. Possibly one of the best in the world. In the late seventies he released 4 LPs in the funk/disco groove. This is one of them. On this platter JPT covers some Cuban standards like Siboney, Malaguena, Sesame Mucho and includes some originals as well. A musical delight from start to finish JPT's trombone licks mix well with the style of the time. Not too overpowering with the trombone which was not considered a sexy instrument....that is until Torres got his hands on one.
Often overlooked by fans of his Super Son and Con Todos Los Hierros albums, Algo Nuevo is on firm terrain and stands up just as good as the previously mentioned titles.
This record was happily played from start to finish. There are no skips, no jumps. Some surface noise can be heard in quieter moments as was common with Areito pressings of the time due to the then world oil crisis. Record is nice and shiny with few marks/lines.
