Definitively, one of the American music masterpiece, this record was recorded in the Detroit Tamla Studio with Marvin Gaye and the famous Funk Brothers band, during the Vietnam war. On this album, Marvin Gaye started to write his own songs and began to sing like the great smoother vocalist and not like a poor imitation of Nat King Cole. “What’s going on” contains exclusively some killer soul tunes such as “What’s going on”, “inner city blues”, “Save the Children”, ... In the same kind of voice, you should like the unknown singer mike james kirkland, as well.
