GRAVY TRAIN from Lancashire were formed in 1970 by guitarist/vocalist Norman Barrett. They managed to get a contract with the famous Vertigo label. And their first outing aptly named "Gravy Train" hit the street in early 1971.Starts off with a couple of less interesting floaty flutey prog workouts, but really gets going with the hard blues shuffle of Coast Road. A typical heavy blues song, but it breaks from tradition by adding in some sax and more flute. The latter is key to this band's sound and is what primarily keeps them from being just another Sabbath clone.
