A mere 14 years after the release of Assembly, Ken Watson gave us his second album. While there are traces of Assembly in this new work, overall it represents a new direction. The Twinkle Factor is much more of a solo work, dominated by percussive keyboard sounds (piano, mallet percussion), with everything handled by Ken including deftly programmed drums. Blending rock, jazz, electronics, and contemporary classical, this is quite complex stuff; the ‘statistical density' of the music makes multiple listenings required. In some ways, this is similar to what Frank Zappa was working on toward the end of his life.
