Reissue, part of the Palm Redux Series. Jazz arranger and composer Jef Gilson and his band with musicians hailing from Madagascar were already offering between 1969 and 1971, world music way before the word became a trend or flashy tag. The band Malagasy was infusing culture from the Indian ocean into free jazz and soul, under the sharp precision and direction of the French musician, assisted by another French innovator: Jean-Charles Capon, one of the first to popularise the cello in a jazz context, heard here on bass.
